1949, Movie, NR, 74 mins

While traveling by boat to South America for a big bout against a Latin American champion, Joe Palooka (Joe Kirkwood, Jr.) and his manager, Knobby Walsh (Leon Errol), get mixed up with some counterfeiters. Joe joins forces with an on-board Fed to put an end to the criminals' scheming and injures his hand in the process, but still has plenty of punching power when he steps through the ropes. Despite a typical fight-film plot and the stereotyping of Joe's ring opponent as a Latin hothead, slapstick comedy and a good dose of suspense combine to make this one of the more enjoyable films in the "Joe Palooka" series. leave a comment
