Joe Butterfly

Murphy is the leader of a journalistic bunch trying to publish a magazine for the occupying American forces in postwar Japan. He leads his group through Army red tape with the help of wily Japanese native Meredith. This film is similar to THE TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON, released the year before, but isn't nearly as clever or original as that wonderful movie. The military high jinks seem contrived, but Meredith, in his first film after a long absence, steals the show with his clever and often hilarious characterization.
