Silly little film has Canova bagging a pigeon one day while quail hunting in the Ozarks. It turns out her find is a Nazi carrier pigeon and she turns it over to the FBI. Canova is declared "No. 1 Patriot," incurring the wrath of Nazi spy head Cowan, who runs a New York nightclub as a front. Enter Brown as a theatrical agent. He wants to bring Canova to New York to sing at a nightclub. The film runs a little long, bouncing back and forth between drama and satire. In one of the better moments Brown has some fun parodying Hitler. "The Lady From Lockheed" (Mort Greene, Harry Revel) is an excellent showcase for Canova's singing. She also sings "Backwoods Barbecue" (Greene, Revel) and "Wabash Blues" (Dave Ringle, Fred Meinken). leave a comment
