Casting clean-cut Rogers as the bank-robbing Jesse James results in this film taking a Robin Hood approach to the James legend. Rogers comes back to Missouri to find that Barcroft has been trying to cheat local homesteaders out of their residences to make a profit selling their land to
the railroad. Rogers begins to rob the trains, giving the loot to the poor homesteaders so they can hold onto their land. Thrown into the plot for confusion is a man who is Rogers' double. Mountains in the background make the Missouri setting hard to believe.
