Conceived in the off beat tradition of kid-flicks like THE 5,000 FINGERS OF DR. T, this awkwardly directed fantasy is an amalgam of CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY and a WWF match hosted by Franz Kafka. Sent to the store like a big boy, young Jacob (Max Morrow) objects to teasing by adults. Accidentally beaned on the noggin during a fracas with the grown-ups, the unconscious Jacob imagines himself under arrest in a hostile land. In a rap-singing courtroom, the judge sentences him to a two-year/two-month prison stretch for insubordination. On Slimer Island, Jacob "Two-Two" joins other falsely accused children forced to toil for the Hooded Fang (Gary Busey), a pugnacious wrestling icon and sweatshop owner. The Hooded Fang's ever-vigilant lackeys, Miss Fowl (Miranda Richardson) and Mr. Fish (Mark McKinney), prevent the frightened inmates from escaping. Meanwhile, Jacob's older siblings appear as super heroes known as the Power Masters, and start tracking down Jacob's whereabouts. Somehow, Jacob finds the inner courage to organize the other small fry and commit acts of sabotage against the factory's fog machine. Jacob eventually confronts the Hooded Fang, and learns that his fearsome facade camouflages a sensitive soul who was once ridiculed by young fans during a match and subsequently dedicated his life to tormenting the rug rats in his employ. A joylessly mechanical remake of an obscure 1977 children's movie, this ugly-looking diversion is frequently stopped in its tracks by horrendous tunes, like a children's birthday party subverted by sinister clowns. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
