Fontaine is cast as a full-fledged femme fatale in this strongly scripted drama. She is surrounded by a trio of men--her husband, Ney, her lover, Knowles, and Marshall, an English fellow she has her sights on. In order to ensure that she gets Marshall, she poisons her husband and then
frames Ney for the murder. She doesn't get away with it, however, and is forced to admit her guilt. Look for the part of Lady Flora, portrayed by Fontaine's mother.
