Mansfield is cast as a Greek actress who announces she'll marry the winner of the 26-mile marathon at the 1896 Olympic Games in Athens, the first such competition in 2,672 years. Thinking that her lover, Minardos, will emerge victorious, she is sure of the outcome until a poor shepherd, Colton, crosses the finish line first. Everything wraps up neatly, however, when Colton decides to marry Xenia, his true love. Although based on a true incident, the film falls short. Bob Mathias is appropriately cast as an American coach and actual Olympic Games footage was used in the film, which was shot on location in Greece. leave a comment
