attorney almost-brother Davis, the misbegotten young man is acquitted. Seared by remorse about his misdeeds, Baxter pronounces himself guilty and serves as his own executioner, leaving the upstanding Davis to marry Leeds, the girl they both love. It could happen that nobody much cares.
