Korbut, the half-breed son of a neer-do-well hockey player and a Canadian Indian woman, is taken in by Jacobi, a Jewish storekeeper who wants to bring up the boy in his faith. Korbut, caught among cultures, is confused and grows rebellious as a result. He finds himself in trouble and engaged in constant battle with a neighboring family of bullies. When Korbut beats one of that clan handily in a boxing match, the family of the loser retaliates by setting, fire to Jacobi's store. Enraged, Korbut gets a rifle and takes Heaton hostage, leading to an eventual reconciliation of the boy with his real father in an emotional climax. The film's technical qualities are professional, but each character is a stereotype; and despite the volatile nature of some of the plot points, there's little excitement. The feeble attempts at making some statements about prejudice are so simplistic that their effect is practically nil. leave a comment
