Iron Eagle II

In TOP GUN American pilots blow a Soviet squadron out of the sky, but World War III doesn't begin because both sides keep it a secret. Apparently this sort of thing goes on all the time, because here it is again at the beginning of IRON EAGLE II, as an aerial game of tag between two Americans and two Russkies gets out of hand, resulting in the downing of one of the American fighters. Once again, none of this is ever made public. Right. At any rate, it seems the pilot who is shot down was the young hero of IRON EAGLE, in which he teamed with Gossett, Jr., to free his imprisoned dad from some unnamed Arab hellhole. In IRON EAGLE II Gossett is pulled out of retirement...
