Irish Eyes Are Smiling

A fictitious biography of songwriter Ernest R. Ball, who, after getting kicked out of the Cleveland Conservatory of Music, tries his luck selling his tunes to a burlesque house. It is here that he sees Haver and, mistaking her for the show's star, falls for her. She gets fired and he follows her to New York. He tries to get work and ends up in a small nightclub. He sings a couple of his own melodies and impresses Whitney, a local celebrity. She takes his songs to the stage and turns him into an overnight sensation.
