Invisible Opponent

An early Lorre film that casts him as a henchman for Steckel, who is interested in buying Aslan's financially ailing oil company. Steckel's men kill Aslan and replace him with one of their own agents, who is sent to a meeting with Europa Oil, the other prospective buyer. Lorre and his thugs also try to kill Hartmann, an engineer for Aslan. He evades them, however, and is aided by Maurus in getting a photo of the real Aslan. The phony Aslan makes the deal with Europa Oil, but when he and his men try to cash the check, they are hauled in by the police, thanks to Hartmann's efforts.
