Sanders, a gunrunner in China, gets involved in a plot to deliver customs certificates, but his contact has died and no one knows where the money is. He is running from the pursuing smugglers when Japanese bombs are dropped on Shanghai. Caught in the firestorm, he is saved by French
singer Del Rio. They fall in love and leave together on a refugee ship. It's a kinetic plot interspersed with stock footage of Shanghai under siege. The studio shots and stock shots are nicely matched, giving the film a highly realistic feeling.
