Werner is a middle-aged, temperamental orchestra conductor whom newspaper reporter Ferris is interviewing. The story is told in flashback. The paper prints a libelous remark Werner makes, and he is sued. Blacklisted temporarily, he goes off on a holiday and finds himself in love with Ferris. Werner's wife, Maskell, unselfishly tells him that he can love the girl but he must never give up music.
