The Inspector General

Based on the Gogol play, this is the story of a small Russian town run by corrupt officials. They hear that one of the Czar's inspector generals is coming for a visit. The foolish politicians immediately set about sprucing up the town, along with their already pumped up egos. Enter a con man, innocent of what is going on. He is simply passing through, but in their haste the politicians think he is the Inspector General. He plays along, taking the suckers for every last ruble he can.
