Inspector Clouseau

1968, Movie, G, 96 mins

starstarstarstar
The third film using the Blake Edwards and Maurice Richlin character and one of the weakest in the series, mainly because Edwards was replaced by director Yorkin and Arkin took over the acting chores from Sellers.

Cargill plays a Scotland Yard knight who uncovers the news that the plunder gleaned from the famous Great Train Robbery is now being employed to underwrite another robbery. He suspects that an associate may be in cahoots with the bad guys, so he calls for Clouseau (Arkin), the famous shamus from Paris. Talented though he is, Arkin cannot fill Sellers' shoes, especially when hampered by a script which relies on cheap laughs and lots of accidental death, and Yorkin's pedestrian direction. Look for Barbara Dana, Arkin's wife (and sometime screenwriter), in a small role as a nun, as well as Lemkow, an under-used British performer who played the title role in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. leave a comment
