Fans of TV's vintage Emergency! series may enjoy this similar blend of incendiary mayhem and disaster movie stereotypes. Firejumper Darcy Hamilton (Janet Gunn) is devoted to her job as fire management officer for small-town Lock Lamond. And though she frets when her teenage daughter Kylie (Greta Newgren) stays out all night, Darcy just turns her domestic worries into extra motivation — if Kylie and her new beau are trapped in a ten-acre blaze, mom has an added incentive to douse those flames. Having overcome the initial sexist bias of her male crew, Darcy wows them over with her keen insights — when a second inferno nearly torches her firefighters, Darcy knows the blame lies with an arsonist, not Mother Nature. And Darcy can rely on helicopter pilot Jake Wheeler (Jeff Fahey) for reports on fire patterns and for providing a manly shoulder to lean on. Ever mindful of the town's reliance on vacationers' dollars, Mayor Bill Klinger (Dean Stockwell) prefers the cocky expertise of town fire chief Mack Woodson (Richard Danielson) to Darcy's alarmist pronouncements. Klinger has no intention of evacuating the area at the height of tourist season. Darcy's credibility dips when evidence suggests Kylie and her squeeze started the forest fire, forcing Darcy to team up with Woodson. She decides to dampen the encroaching conflagration by blowing up the town dam, and en route discovers the true identity of the arsonist. Now Darcy must battle the firebug to save herself, clear her daughter and drench the hellish holocaust. Thoroughly second rate in most departments, this routine picture does feature some spectacular stunts, helicopter rescue footage and maximum property damage that may appease viewers looking for a dose of destructive fury. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
