A vivid portrayal of a personality stifled from residing in small-town America, INDEPENDENCE DAY has Kathleen Quinlan as Mary Ann Tyler, a woman who can't get herself to make a final split from comfort and security to go on to bigger and better things. Her main reason for hanging on is her valued relationship with a mechanic (David Keith). The effectiveness of Quinlan's portrayal is hampered by uneven direction, which isn't straight on what exactly the film is about. leave a comment
