At the close of the Civil War, a group of Confederates steals a million dollars in gold from a Union convoy. The gold is hidden in a cave near Phantom Hill, Texas. After being captured, the group's leader, Duryea, offers to tell where the gold is in exchange for his freedom. Union soldier Fuller then leads the party in the search for the loot.
