In 1944, the saga of Ellsworth "Sonny" Wisecarver was sensational news. IN THE MOOD attempts to re-create the story of the amorous teenager and two lonely women. Taking advantage of the dramatic shortage of men in the US, 15-year-old Sonny (Patrick Dempsey) has affairs with married women played by Talia Balsam and Beverly D'Angelo. Society is not ready for a teenage lothario seducing older women, and Sonny is soon in trouble with the law. Dempsey is a find, as is Balsam.
