Jill Clayburgh plays the Valium-addicted Barbara Gordon (who wrote the autobiographical novel upon which the film is based), a television documentary filmmaker whose apparent success masks a deeper failure to cope with life's complexities. Her live-in companion, Nicol Williamson, is an
