This tepid comedy stars Hope as the overprotective single father of Weld. Weld is dating Avalon, and Hope can't stand the guitar-playing kid. Hope gets his employer to transfer him to Sweden to get Weld away from her beau. In Sweden Weld quickly falls for debonair playboy Slate, while Hope falls under the spell of interior decorator Merrill. When Slate proposes that he and Weld experience a "trial honeymoon," Hope figures Avalon wasn't such a bad guy after all. Frantically, he tries to get Avalon to come to Sweden and win back Weld. Avalon makes the trip and, upon meeting Slate, promptly knocks him out with his guitar. On the voyage back to the US, Hope and Merrill and Weld and Avalon have the ship's captain perform a double marriage. Songs include "The Bells Keep Ringin'," "Peep Show," "There'll Be Rainbows Again" ("By" Dunham, Bobby Beverly), "Nothing Can Compare with You" (Dunham), "Would Ya' Like My Last Name?" (Kenneth Lampert, Diane Lampert), "Killin' Polka," "Mad Latina," "Take It Off," "Tell Me, Tell Me," "Give It to Me," (Dunham, Jimmie Haskell), "Watusi Joe" (Haskell, Jim Economides). leave a comment
