Chevalier is charming as the ailing grandfather anxious to meet daughter Dee's fiance. She invites her beau, Williams (in his first film role), to pay a visit, but his plane gets fogged in, so he can't make it. Determined to please her grandfather, she asks her friend, Goulet (his second film after CAMELOT), to double for the fiance, whom the father has never met. After meeting Dee's dubious love, Chevalier makes a miraculous recovery, and soon learns Goulet's real identity. Having taken a liking to the lad, he feigns illness whenever Goulet readies to leave. When Williams shows up, Chevalier clearly prefers the pseudo-fiance to the real thing, a preference Dee soon begins to share. Songs include: "Almost There" (Jerry Keller, Gloria Shayne), "Where Are You?" (Harold Adamson, Jimmy McHugh), "It Had to Be You" (Gus Kahn, Isham Jones, sung by Andy Williams), "I'd Rather Be Rich" (Richard Maltby, Jr., David Shire, sung by Williams, Robert Goulet). A remake of the 1941 film IT STARTED WITH EVE. leave a comment
