Johnson is a figure skater with a bright Olympic future who is blinded in a freak accident. With the help of Benson, her hockey-playing, excessively sensitive boyfriend, she wages a brave battle to make it back to the top. Dewhurst is superb as the owner of a local skating rink who tries
not to live out her failed dreams through Johnson, and Butler's cinematography is stunning. Johnson and Benson are entirely too
wonderful, however, and ICE CASTLES collapses under the weight of sentimental overkill. The tune "Through the Eyes of Love" by Marvin Hamlisch and Carol Bayer Sager,
received an Oscar nomination for Best Song.
