Formby, a Londoner with the urge to get in front of the footlights, is boarding in a hotel with a number of theatrical personalities. Soon after he unpacks his bags, an Australian acrobat is killed. Blame is placed at Formby's doorstep when the corpse is found in the room next to his. The killer makes an attempt on Formby's life, shooting at him in a Hall of Mirrors (3 years before Welles' famous scene in THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI). Formby survives, clears his name, pins the crime on the real culprit, and lands a job on stage. Five screenwriters collaborated on the script, churning out a lively, witty programmer. leave a comment
