McClory is a divinity student who poses as his jailed gangster brother to help the police break the rackets. He infiltrates his sibling's gang and convinces them to team up with other gangs to run better and smoother operations. He also has them keep files on their rackets. McClory's
brother--also played by McClory--breaks out of jail, and when it looks like the good McClory is going to be exposed, his bad brother is killed by mistake by one of his own men. Of course, the gangsters are jailed and the rackets busted up. The good McClory's romance with nightclub singer Jordan is
scotched by his return to divinity school and, presumably, to holy orders.
