I Bombed Pearl Harbor

What could have been an interesting look at the Japanese view of WW II is passed over for standard war action and situations. Mifune plays Adm. Isoroku Yamaguchi, commander of the task force that attacked Pearl Harbor, and Natsuki is a flight navigator who returns to Japan after the attack. Uehara is the childhood sweetheart that Natsuki is afraid to marry, fearing that marriage will make him a less competent officer. As the war goes on and the Japanese begin to experience defeat, Natsuki wonders about the purported invincibility of the Japanese fleet. His carrier is sunk by American dive-bombers at Midway, and the men go down with the ship, offering a final salute...
