After the success of The Readers Digest and Arthur P. Jacobs musical adaptation of Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer the same group decided to do a film just like it. They adapted Huckleberry Finn, and the results are terrible, giving family entertainment a bad name. Twain's story is butchered and the mood completely wrong. Moreover, the songs written by screen writers Richard and Robert Sherman are forgettable. East plays the title character, taking off down the Mississippi on a raft with runaway slave, Jim, played by Winfield. Along the way, he gets mixed up with a couple of confidence men, played by Korman and Wayne. The songs include: "Freedom," " "Huckleberry Finn," "Someday Honey Darlin," "Cairo, Illinois," "Rose in a Bible," "Royal Nonesuch," "What's Right, What's Wrong," "Rotten Luck" (Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman). leave a comment
