A hopelessly "un-hip" Hope comedy, despite its desperate efforts to be "hip." Hope and Wyman play a husband and wife about to dissolve their marriage after 20 years. At the same time, their daughter, Cameron, announces that she and her college beau, Matheson, are going to be married. This development pleases her family, but Matheson's father, Gleason, is outraged and sets out to stop the wedding. Gleason succeeds in ruining the ceremony, but the two youngsters run off to live with a rock 'n' roll band instead. Meanwhile, Hope finds solace in the arms of a well-endowed divorcee, Arthur, while Wyman is seen in the company of divorced man Nielsen. A few months later, Hope and Wyman learn that their daughter is about to have a baby, and that she plans to put it up for adoption, in keeping with the advice of her guru, Corey. Hope and Wyman adopt the child themselves, but no one knows that they are the foster parents. This leads to a series of uninspired comic situations in which Hope and Wyman fake a happy marriage for the sake of the adoption agency, then run off to their lovers when they have a chance. Gleason, however, suspects the truth and goes on a crusade to expose the sham. Hope tries unsuccessfully to convince the guru to tell Cameron and Matheson to reclaim the child. Desperate, Hope masquerades as the guru and attempts to convince the congregation that their children should be with them. The trick works, and the young couple and the baby are reunited. The whole experience has brought Hope and Wyman back together, and everyone is happy for the fadeout. leave a comment
