Kapoor is a schoolteacher who relates a story about the responsibilities of marriage. After having an affair with an American woman, Kapoor comes to realize that he needs a wife, but when he returns home, he finds that she has left him. In the end, however, Kapoor is able to win back his
wife's love. Satyajit Ray supervised the music recording for this early collaboration between producer Ismail Merchant and director James Ivory.
