The House On Sorority Row

1983, Movie, R, 91 mins

The feature debut of Brian De Palma protege Mark Rosman, this sporadically interesting slasher film is better directed than most. Opening with a precredit sequence wherein a horribly deformed, mentally defective baby is born to a woman who has used a fertility drug, the film then shoots forward 20 years. The mother (Kelsa Hunt) has turned her home into a college sorority house, and her mutant son is, of course, locked in the attic and just waiting for a chance to get loose so that he can kill the nubile sorority girls one at a time. His opportunity comes when the mischievous girls accidentally bring about his mother's death as part of a prank. Although director Rosman spices up the predictable murders with some stabs at surrealism, a slasher movie is a slasher movie is a slasher movie, and this one soon wears out its welcome. leave a comment
