A German tearjerker that concerns itself with the events in a large maternity hospital. The story unfolds in GRAND HOTEL style with stories of several women told in interlocking fashion. There is a woman whose husband neglects her because she has given birth only to girls, an opera singer
whose husband uses her hospital stay to cheat on her, and a deserted mother who later finds love with a gardener. The women are taken care of by Froehlich and his young female assistant. The assistant loves children, but discovers--to her horror--that a childhood accident has left her sterile.
However, a happy ending is prescribed for all by Doctor Froehlich.
