Dan Bartlett (John Cusack), a prep school student, is an overachiever who studies so hard that he fights a losing battle with exhaustion and flunks a chemistry test. As a result he must take a makeup test during Easter vacation--a time he is supposed to spend sailing with his cheerleader girl friend, Lori (Wendy Gazelle), and her family.
