1971, Movie, GP, 105 mins

Beautifully photographed on magnificent locations in Afghanistan and Spain, THE HORSEMEN is ruined by an overly talky, trite script by Dalton Trumbo. The son of an Afghan sheik, Sharif enters a deadly game of buzkashi, a brutal version of soccer, to prove his manhood to his father, Palance. During the game, Sharif is humiliated, and his leg is badly hurt. He is taken home by his untrustworthy servant, De, and a nomadic "untouchable," Taylor-Young, but not before they must stop in an outlying town and amputate the young heir's leg at the knee. Upon his return, Sharif is still determined to prove his manhood to his father, so he begins a slow rehabilitation that culminates in a dramatic display of his equestrian skills. Having proved his prowess, Sharif rides off forever. leave a comment
