Honolulu: Review
A standard screwball musical starring Young in a dual role as a Hollywood star and a Hawaiian plantation owner. These two meet in California and decide to switch places for a short time to give their lives a little boost. The star goes to Hawaii for what he thinks will be a quiet vacation and the plantation owner goes to Hollywood to get a taste of fame and adoration. On board the ship to the islands, the actor meets and falls for Powell, but once in Hawaii he finds himself about to marry the real plantation owner's fiancee. Eventually, the farmer returns to the islands in the nick of time, and prevents his girl from marrying the wrong man. Powell provides the dance numbers (including a black-face parody of Bill "Bojangles" Robinson), with Burns and Allen and Eddie "Rochester" Anderson providing the laughs. Songs include: "The Leader Doesn't Like Music" (Harry Warren, Gus Kahn, sung by Allen), "This Night Was Made for Dreaming," "Honolulu" (Warren, Kahn), and "Hymn to the Sun" (P.G. Wodehouse, Armand Vesey).
