Temple plays a young woman out to elope with soldier Madison. She follows him south of the border but finds out that he is stuck in Panama's Canal Zone when she is in Mexico City. She tries to get help from the American consulate, meets consul Tone, and immediately forgets about what's-his-name. But Tone is already engaged and complications arise. Temple gets a chance to sing a few numbers, including "I Love Geraniums" and "Ven Aqui," but they're no "Good Ship Lollipop." Tone is completely miscast and clearly uncomfortable in his slapsticky role. There's a lot of nice Mexican scenery and a couple of decent production numbers, but overall it's a boring formula piece. The film cost a lot to produce, and it lost big at the box office. leave a comment
