Well-meaning though cliche-ridden film about the kids of the 1960s. Pop singer Scardino is the standard misunderstood young man, who also leads a rock group. Nicol and Peterson are his rigid parents; Endersby and Henry are his buddies. Henry is in the Army, back home on furlough. Both Scardino and Endersby oppose the Vietnam War. Farrow (Mia's sister, and daughter of John Farrow and Maureen O'Sullivan) has more or less a walk-on role that requires her to be shy and introverted until she gets into bed with someone. The photography is awkward at moments, and the film is riddled with cliched shots of sunsets, sex scenes in silhouette, and dope smoking. The direction is far too simplistic, as is the script. Nicol is surprisingly good in his role, rising well above the material. The film is set in Wisconsin but was shot in Canada. Scardino performs his own rock songs, and the soundtrack also features tunes from a number of rock 'n' roll bands, including "Turn, Turn, Turn," performed by the Byrds, "Bluebird," "Rock 'n' Roll Woman," and "For What It's Worth," performed by Buffalo Springfield, "Nashville Cats," performed by The Lovin' Spoonful, "Brave New World," performed by Steve Miller, "How Many More Times?" performed by Led Zeppelin, "Rock 'n' Roll Gypsies," performed by Hearts And Flowers, and "Spoonful," performed by Cream. leave a comment
