A grim film with the New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration serving as its backdrop. Doctor Young, ex-fighter Wynn, and priest Anderson are three friends who grew up together in a poor New Orleans neighborhood. Young is in love with Rule. He is also fighting his ungrateful patients, poor people
inherited from his father's practice. Wynn is in trouble after killing a crooked fight promoter who owed him some money, and eventually he, too, is killed by the promoter's thugs. The individual episodes don't quite work as a whole and setting all of this unhappiness against the gaiety of the
Mardi Gras doesn't come off as well as it should.
