Upon release from prison for a crime she didn't commit, Colbert decides to pose as a fortune teller to enact revenge on Hale, the woman who set her up. Disguised as a gypsy, Colbert kidnaps Hale's granddaughter, Kagno, and plans to raise the child as a thief. She is temporarily distracted from her plan when the town's local gangster, Robinson, and newspaper reporter Newell both fall in love with her.
