Upon release from prison for a crime she didn't commit, Colbert decides to pose as a fortune teller to enact revenge on Hale, the woman who set her up. Disguised as a gypsy, Colbert kidnaps Hale's granddaughter, Kagno, and plans to raise the child as a thief. She is temporarily distracted from her plan when the town's local gangster, Robinson, and newspaper reporter Newell both fall in love with her. Blinded by her thirst for vengeance, Colbert ignores the men. Soon all are engaged in a game of deceit with Kagno's life hanging in the balance.
