Hold That Ghost

1941, Movie, NR, 85 mins

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello inherit a haunted house in which a gangster was murdered. There are all sorts of strange goings on, and, of course, Costello sees the ghostly pranks and Abbott does not. Costello performs some brilliant pantomime as his terror-wracked form bumbles and bounces about the house, and the sight gags run rampant. The routines in this film so impressed comics Olsen and Johnson that they used some of them in their own GHOST CATCHERS (1944). Fans of 1940s swing will enjoy the musical numbers, which include the Andrews Sisters performing "Sleepy Serenade" and "Aurora," and Ted Lewis and his Orchestra doing "When My Baby Smiles at Me" and "Me and My Shadow." leave a comment
