In a moral dilemma worthy of Solomon, Tony Lazorka (Eric Roberts) ponders whether to ice his pal, mob accountant Seymour Segal (Eric Poppick), before Seymour can turn state's evidence against their boss, Dominic Catania (Robert Miano). To the fury of Dominic's son Paolo (Damian Chapa), Tony lets Seymour escape with his life, thus endangering Tony's own family. Tony enters the Witness Protection Program, but Dominic eventually hires a computer hacker named Brian (Esteban Powell) to uncover the whereabouts of government snitches. When the mobsters double-cross Brian — actually Seymour's teenaged son — he teams up with Tony, but the duo are hampered by the fact that the Catania clan has bought off several federal agents. Eventually, the gangsters capture and torture Brian and Tony, then kidnap Tony's wife and child. After wounding Paolo, Tony heads for a climactic rendezvous aboard a boat containing his loved ones, which the CIA has loaded with explosives. Our anti-hero learns to his peril that the Mafia believes in lifetime job security — or else! Fluctuating between mindless man-on-the-lam thriller and a psychological study of surrogate bonding, the script puts its characters through their paces in a manner akin to aerobic exercise; perhaps they're kept in constant motion so the audience won't question how tiresome their paranoia has become. Speaking of paranoia, once again, the FBI and/or CIA is in cahoots with the bad guys. Is Hollywood trying to tell us something? Unfortunately, this helter-skelter production fails to tie in its federal agency conspiracy with the main Mafia plot. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
