A few months ago we took a hands-on look at Digital Copy with Family Guy - Blue Harvest. The show's Star Wars parody came to DVD with an extra disc containing a digital file version of the feature which easily copied to a Video iPod, a PC, or a PC-file compatible device (like an Archos media player). It's a handy way to get a "portable" copy of the DVD you've bought, so you don't have to buy it all over again via download to the hard drive of your laptop or a portable video device. But what else is on the way for Digital Copy?· Fox has the biggest support for on-disc Digital Copy so far, but Family Guy was actually their second. Last November's 2-DVD version of Live Free or Die Hard was first. Last week, during the MacWorld event, Fox and Apple announced iTunes Digital Copy. The first release to utilize this technology was Family Guy: Digital Harvest, which I received the other day. Many people have questions about how the Digital Copy works, so I'd like to walk you through my experience with it.The "Blue Harvest" release is a two-disc set, with the second disc devoted to the digital copy. I inserted the DVD-ROM into my Mac laptop and a window popped up with a single icon. Double-clicking the icon launched iTunes, with "Blue Harvest" listed under "Devices." Clicking on the DVD launched the iTunes store and took me to a special "Blue Harvest" page where I entered my 16 digit code. Pressing "Redeem" took me to a new iTunes Store Terms and Conditions screen which I agreed to. A little over 2 minutes later the file had been copied to my computer, with the movie appearing under my "Purchased" tab. Disney's Enchanted topped the box office with a $35.3-million three-day haul, and has taken in $50.5 mil since Wednesday — the second-best five-day Thanksgiving opening ever (behind Toy Story 2's $80.1 mil). This Christmas placed second with $18.6 mil.Rounding out the top five were Beowulf ($16.2 million for the three-day weekend), the video-game adaptation Hitman ($13 mil in its debut) and Bee Movie ($12 mil).
