Racial tensions and political turmoil on a contemporary college campus, handled with typically ham-handed sincerity by director John Singleton (BOYZ N THE HOOD). Omar Epps is Malik, an apolitical athlete caught between a self-appointed Black Power guru (Ice Cube) and a nascent neo-Nazi (Michael Rapaport); Laurence Fishburne is the requisite father figure. Singleton gets points for exposing the hypocrisy of "politically correct" institutions, but stilted dialogue and cardboard characterizations undermine the message. leave a comment
