A lavish cornball musical horse opera, with Scott drilling for oil in 19th-century Pennsylvania, clashing with heavy Hale, and wooing Dunne, when she isn't doing her Julie Andrews number, warbling to a farm nag. She's the most discordant element at work here; her belting of saloon songs is on a par with Jeanette McDonald in SAN FRANCISCO. It's the rare musical that can appropriate overly prim actresses.
