High Society: Review

The Bowery Boys, once again led by Gorcey and Hall, get mixed up in high society when rich crook Lummis attempts to steal an inheritance from his nephew, Keith. Lummis hoodwinks Hall and tries to pass him off as the rightful heir to the fortune. Some mildly amusing situations arise as the tough slum kids masquerade as cultured types, and eventually Gorcey exposes the plot and puts the bad guys in the clink. HIGH SOCIETY was accidentally nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Story due to an oversight in the ballots sent to the Academy voters, when this Allied Artists low-budget programmer was confused with MGM's outstanding musical, HIGH SOCIETY. After a bit of hesitation, writer Bernds notified the Academy of its error; however, he was allowed to keep the nomination plaque. leave a comment
