Only die-hard spy-film junkies will want to come in from the cold for this standard espionage picture, which involves internecine rivalry between Uncle Sam's major Big-Brother agencies. Agent Jason Price (Dolph Lundgren) was bounced from the FBI for insubordination, so he forged an alliance with the National Security Agency. Utilizing techniques he developed in East Berlin, Price created the Daedalus Network, which furnishes new identities for witnesses the government has failed to protect. Unlike the Witness Protection Program, Price's organization bypasses governmental authority. But Price weakens an FBI court case when extricates his most recent latest client from the Agency's clutches, so FBI big cheese Sam Turgesen (Alan Fawcett) vows to bring down Price's operation. Price's maverick methods enable Turgeson to turn the NSA against him, and his placement record hits another roadbump a hit man named "the Closer" assassinates his pal, Sonny Mathis (Ted Whittak), on orders from the notorious Icarus Agency. Someone also rubs out all the Daedalus employees who gave Sonny refuge, but then Sonny turns up alive and kicking; his faked demise is linked to the disappearance of Paul Elkert (Serge Houde), another Price client sought by the FBI. A former advisor to the Icarus crime syndicate, Elkert hired Price then compromised Price's reputation by dropping out of his protective program. And though Elkert's associate, Renee Brooks (Maxim Roy), cooperates with Price, she's seeking Elkert for reasons that conflict with Price's. Squeezed by the FBI and NSA, Price tries to locate Elkert and discover who's been laying waste to his staff before the Closer strikes again. Like so many of his contemporaries, Lundgren looks tired, as if he's been worn down by action film cliches over the years. There's still some kick in those famous legs, but an atmosphere of dulled resignation hangs over this enterprise. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
