All flagrant historical inaccuracies aside, this based-on-a-true-story adventure tale about a boozy Pony Express rider (Viggo Mortensen) who pits his scrubby little pinto, Hidalgo, against a field of Bedouin riders in the grueling desert marathon known as the Ocean of Fire is rousing, rip-roaring entertainment.
