Led by American soldier Strother and Rumanian Peters (the daughter of a man killed by the Allies), a group of eight soldiers go behind enemy lines in WW II. They are to infiltrate the famous Ploesti oil fields and set up bombing flares for an air raid. At first Peters is hostile toward her comrades but gradually she softens up, falling in love with Borland.
