Zhang Yimou's lushly color-coded, Rashomon-esque historical fable reworks a much-adapted story about the second-century B.C. emperor who unified China's seven warring kingdoms and the assassins who conspired to dethrone him. Told in a framing story and four flashbacks, it begins as a nameless warrior (Jet Li) relates to the Emperor Qin Shi Huang (Chen Daoming) the circumstances under which he killed three legendary martial artists dedicated to the emperor's assassination. As usual, Li was very involved in the choreography of the sequences — and he's got the bruises to prove it. "Of course I get hurt," he laughs. "I also hurt other pe read more
