Hell Is A City

British detective Baker is tracking down a dangerous escaped convict, Crawford, and thinks his quarry will head for Manchester, where the jewels stolen in the heist the criminal was sent up for are stashed. When a bookie's clerk is robbed and killed while on her way to the bank, Baker starts to collect clues that point to the convict and a small group of criminals. He arrests everyone but Crawford, who is finally hunted down in the explosive ending of this satisfying British crime drama, which features a realistic performance from Baker and a script that keeps the action building.
